About

Hey this is Nilanjan

I am the Eugene McDermott Fellow at The University of Texas at Dallas where I am pursuing my PhD in Management Science. Formerly, I was an Automotive Ergonomics engineer, working in the Occupant Safety department at Mercedes Benz Research and Development in Bangalore, India. I completed my education at Chennai Mathematical Institute, and am broadly interested in Machine Learning with a soft spot for Reinforcement Learning and Computer Vision. You can find a few of my projects in my Github. Previous to my masters at CMI, I pursued Mathematics with a minor in Statistics and Economics at St. Xavier's, Kolkata. You can find my profile at Linkedin. You can find my CV here.

Ongoing Projects

Formerly, I used to work in the Occupant Safety department at Mercedes Benz Research and Development as an automotive engineer. I also worked on a project on accident prevention in their Accident Research department.

In the meantime, I was also interning at the Indian Statistical Institute as a research intern under Prof. Ashish Ghosh in the Machine Intelligence Unit on clustering streaming data using decision theoretic rough sets.

Other interests

I spend my time playing table tennis in the weekends, supporting Die Schwarzgelben on Saturdays and dissing the stewards on a Formula 1 race on Sundays. I also enjoy sketching occassionally. Some of my artwork can be found here. I rarely write articles. A few of my articles have been published here.

I really enjoy reading high fantasy novels and listening to music. Some of my favorite books are The Lord of The Rings, Dune, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Stormlight Archive, The Kite Runner and The Book Thief. One of my greatest personal possessions is a signed copy of The Classic Ruskin Bond vol.2.

Some of my favorite albums are-

Reanimation by Linkin Park

Reanimation was one of the first albums that I ever listened to. Growing up as an avid Linkin Park fan, some of my other favorite Linkin Park albums include Minutes to Midnight and Meteora.

Random Access Memories by Daft Punk

The music of Daft Punk has always been mysteriously amazing to hear to. With their repetitive beats and funky base, Random Access Memories brought together some of the greatest in the industry together to make one of the best disco albums ever made.

Phobia by Breaking Benjamin

Phobia is one of my favorite rock albums ever. The slow start from Intro to picking up the pace in the amazing Diary of Jane, Phobia as an album, talks about different fears that a person faces in his life.
